Summary of Position and Duties
The Human Resources Division is accepting applications for multiple, May 15, 2024 openings for the at-will, F.L.S.A non-exempt, seasonal position of Part-time employee in the Public Works Department. The position works approximately 40 hours a week, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday (or on a schedule as determined by the Director or his designee) on a seasonal basis, with a start date and end date to their employment with the Village, as determined by the Village of Addison. The primary responsibility of the Seasonal employee will involve performing a variety of maintenance activities in the buildings and on the grounds of various Village-owned facilities. The seasonal employee will be assigned to perform the duties of any one of the divisions in the Public Works Department on a rotating daily basis. Examples of some of the duties include, but are not limited to:

• Performs daily cleaning and maintenance activities within all Public Works Buildings, facilities and their grounds, including but not limited to: scrubbing, waxing, and polishing furniture; vacuuming and shampooing carpets; emptying waste baskets; taking trash to dumpster; maintaining humidifiers; washing windows, woodwork, toilets, and washrooms. May perform computer-entry, such as parts and material inventory, tree inventory, sidewalk trip hazard inventory, hydrant records, etc.

• Assists in the performance of various outdoor projects, including street-patching, water-main breaks, setting-up and taking down barricades, branch pick-up tree, trimming, performs inspections and inventories of Village-owned systems, such as sidewalk trip hazards, street-lights, trees, etc. Assists with the cleaning, maintenance and repair of Village equipment and underground and above-ground utilities, including: sewers, clean-outs, water-mains, valves, hydrants, light-poles, sidewalks, curbs, roadways, and pump stations. May perform environmental sampling and field analysis of creeks, wastewater, and storm-water.

• Assists with keeping outside premises clean and orderly by sweeping and cleaning sidewalks and ramps and raking leaves; picking up debris from the grounds; etc. Occasionally makes minor repairs to buildings, furniture, or equipment, such as windows, doors, furnace, and plumbing and electrical fixtures; identifies and reports items which need major repair. Paints walls, floors, piping, etc. in various Village buildings. Paints fire hydrants.

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be an eligible candidate for this position:
• Be at least 17 years old.
• Ability to pass a personal interview, physical and drug screen when applicable.
• Ability to work any expected/unexpected overtime that may be mandatory.
• Experience in successfully dealing with the public, in person, on a very frequent basis, including the ability to handle irate, difficult and demanding customers with professionalism and courtesy.
• Be able to successfully utilize Microsoft Office software programs (i.e., Word and Excel).
• Possess a valid Illinois License CDL Class ‘D’ and/or Class ‘B’ or of the classification appropriate to the equipment to be operated free from incidence that may result in license revocation or suspension.

Beneficial, But Not Required, Qualifications include:
• The ability to operate equipment and machinery such as heavy equipment and trucks, hand and power-tools, hydraulic tools, pumps, landscaping equipment, mechanical and HVAC equipment.
• Vocational/technical training in the construction trades and additional experience in public works/utility maintenance, construction and repair.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger or handle shovels, rakes, and hand held tools; feel a surface for texture; reach with hands and arms; balance; climb up or down a ladder, hill, stairs, or into a truck; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl at ground level, talk or hear on the phone or in person. Duties
The Naperville Fire Department is responsible for protecting approximately 148,000 residents living in a 50 square mile area. A nationally accredited agency, the Naperville Fire Department’s mission is to safeguard the lives and property of the citizens of Naperville. This is accomplished by providing professional, quality fire prevention and public education programs as well as effective and efficient fire suppression, emergency medical, rescue and other emergency services.

Over the past two decades, the Naperville Fire Department has experienced rapid growth. The fire department has ten fire stations in operation. Currently the department employs more than 200 personnel. The department is manned 24 hours per day and operates six front line engines, two heavy duty rescue squads, eight front line paramedic ambulances, two front line ladder trucks and two Battalion Commander vehicles.

The starting salary is $74,467.39 (2024 Step 1 rate per contract)

Qualifications
Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United Sates.
Age: Must be at least nineteen (19) years of age and under thirty-five (35) by the date of testing, unless otherwise exempt by statute. Minimum age for appointment to the position of Firefighter/Paramedic is twenty-one (21).
Education: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED) at time of application.
Licensure: Must be licensed as an Illinois EMT/Paramedic OR have passed the National Certified Paramedic Exam at the time of the background screen; OR be a current licensed RN able to go through the Paramedic Bridge Program through Edward Hospital after hire.
Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and Ladder Climb Certification: Must have successfully completed the CPAT and Ladder Climb Exercise within one year prior to the application deadline.
Character: Must possess good moral character suitable to the role of a Firefighter/Paramedic. Must pass a thorough character and background investigation, which shall include a polygraph test.
