Large Dinner Cruise Yacht in Chicago by Soldiers Field is seeking Maintenance Worker to clean the boat before our cruises, perform general maintenance duties such as painting, sanding, varnishing and lifting. This is a unique job that has not had an opening in 30 years so we are looking for that special right person to fill this important job.

THE APPLICANT WE SEEK:
*Must be able to Read and Speak English.
*Must be honest, punctual and very reliable.
*Must not mind working alone in a quite environment. (Many of your assigned duties do not require more than one person to do them).
*Must have flexibility in available schedule.
*Must be an organized person with attention to every detail when cleaning, painting and varnishing.
*Must be in decent physical condition to perform the duties we require.
*Must not mind working on a boat. Rain or shine we need the boat cleaned and work done.
*Prior experience painting, sanding and varnishing will be helpful but we can train if we must.
*Must not mind being subject to a pre-employment drug test and background check.

ABOUT THIS JOB:
*Permanent – Part Time to Full Time Position. Seasonal job April through Mid-November each year.
*Interviews begin early this May (or sooner if we find the right applicant)
*Pay will be equal to past experience. We will begin no lower than $9 per hour but no higher than $12 per hour.
*Since this is a «seasonal job» we cannot offer Healthcare Coverage or Unemployment during our off-season months of November through
March. Most of our employees save their money, and make enough money to get them by on our off-season months.

DUTIES:
*Cleaning our yacht inside and outside with great attention to every detail before each of our cruises. This yacht has 2 Floors and is 87 feet long. The cleaning job can take between 5-8 hours. On days we (do not have cruises) your job will be either painting the boat on the outside, or doing wood work, sanding, and varnishing wood inside. Working with paint, thinner and solvents is required on this job. Sometimes we will request your help in cleaning our engine room. Working on a ladder is also sometimes required to paint the outside.
We have two other boats so there is plenty of boat cleaning, painting and wood work to do here. You will be requested to help with other duties such as bringing in and storing our cruise supplies which includes cases of beer, kegs and large boxes. Some heavy lifting is required. During the Spring, our main guy needs help getting our boat ready to bring into the harbor for our cruise season. In the fall our main guy needs help getting the boat ready for the winter which requires winterizing the bathrooms, sinks and bars as well as shrink wrapping tables and other outside areas of the boat. Other odd jobs such as carpet cleaning may be requested. Please note that after showing you around and training, you must not mind working alone as other crew does not work unless we have a cruise scheduled.

HOURS: Hours will very depending upon what times we are hired for cruises. Most of the time your hours will be (around 9AM – 5PM) or (8AM – 4PM) but if we have a cruise that starts before 5:00 PM you will need to come in earlier and finish earlier on that day to get the yacht cleaned for us. We allow 2 days off per week, preferably Sundays and Mondays but we are flexible as long as consistency exists. If we need you to clean the boat on a Sunday or a Monday, we can assign another day off for you that week, so your flexibility is appreciated.

Department: Department of Public Utilities – Water

The Department of Public Utilities – Water & Wastewater seeks a Utility Technician III for the Inspections and Locates section of the Water Distribution & Collection division.

This individual will work as a member of a crew based out of the Civil & Environmental Engineering & Construction building (3612 Plainfield/Naperville Rd.). This is a first shift position with normal working hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The selected individual will also be expected to work scheduled and emergency overtime and stand-by as needed.

Duties include skilled & semi-skilled work in inspecting the workmanship, materials and construction methods used in the installation of underground water and wastewater utility facilities, and ensuring conformance with plans, specifications and City standards.

To qualify, one must possess two years of responsible utility, location and construction inspection experience. A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required. Additional specialized training in engineering, construction technology (or a related field) is preferred. A valid Illinois Class D Driver’s License and a good driving record are required.

Knowledge of the methods, equipment and practices used in utility construction. Knowledge of the basic principles of engineering, surveying, hydraulics and soil mechanics as applied to the construction and maintenance of in-ground utility facilities. Knowledge of basic mathematics as applied to utility construction and inspection. Ability to determine the stage of construction during which material and workmanship defects are readily found and corrected. Ability to prepare and maintain detailed records of inspection activity. Ability to deal firmly, tactfully and professionally with contractors, engineers and property owners. Ability to appear and accurately testify in court as required.
