PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
Summary of Position and Duties
The Human Resources Division is accepting applications for multiple, May 15, 2023 openings for the at-will, FLSA non-exempt, seasonal position of Part-time employee in the Public Works Department. The position works approximately 40 hours a week, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday on a seasonal basis, with a start date and end date to their employment with the Village, as determined by the Village of Addison. The primary responsibility of the Seasonal employee will involve performing a variety of maintenance activities in the buildings and on the grounds of various Village-owned facilities. The seasonal employee will be assigned to perform the duties of any one of the divisions in the Public Works Department on a rotating daily basis. Examples of some of the duties include, but are not limited to:
• Performs daily cleaning and maintenance activities within all Public Works Buildings, facilities and their grounds, including but not limited to: scrubbing, waxing, and polishing furniture; vacuuming and shampooing carpets; emptying waste baskets; taking trash to dumpster; maintaining humidifiers; washing windows, woodwork, toilets, and washrooms; spraying and fumigating when necessary. May perform computer-entry, such as parts and material inventory, tree inventory, sidewalk trip hazard inventory, hydrant records, etc.
• Assists in the performance of various outdoor projects, including street-patching, water-main breaks, setting-up and taking down barricades, branch pick-up tree, trimming, performs inspections and inventories of Village-owned systems, such as sidewalk trip hazards, street-lights, trees, etc. Assists with the cleaning, maintenance and repair of Village equipment and underground and above-ground utilities, including: sewers, clean-outs, water-mains, valves, hydrants, light-poles, sidewalks, curbs, roadways, and pump stations. May perform environmental sampling and field analysis of creeks, wastewater, and storm-water.
• Assists with keeping outside premises clean and orderly by sweeping and cleaning sidewalks and ramps; mowing lawns and raking leaves; picking up debris from the grounds; etc. Occasionally makes minor repairs to buildings, furniture, or equipment, such as windows, doors, furnace, and plumbing and electrical fixtures; identifies and reports items which need major repair. Paints walls, floors, piping, etc. in various Village buildings. Paints fire hydrants.
All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be an eligible candidate for this position:
• Possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D Equivalent and be 17 years old.
• Ability to pass a personal interview, physical and drug screen when applicable.
• Ability to work any expected/unexpected overtime that may be mandatory.
• Experience in successfully dealing with the public, in person, on a very frequent basis, including the ability to handle irate, difficult and demanding customers with professionalism and courtesy.
• Be able to successfully utilize Microsoft Office software programs (i.e., Word and Excel).
• Possess a valid Illinois License CDL Class ‘D’ and/or Class ‘B’ or of the classification appropriate to the equipment to be operated free from incidence that may result in license revocation or suspension.
Beneficial, But Not Required, Qualifications include:
• The ability to operate equipment and machinery such as heavy equipment and trucks, hand and power-tools, hydraulic tools, pumps, landscaping equipment, mechanical and HVAC equipment.

The Accountant will also assist the Finance Director with accounting tasks to promote the principle of separation of duties including, but not limited to, General Ledger maintenance, preparation for the Village’s annual audit, processing of month-end and year-end journal entries, and special projects as assigned. In addition, this position may be asked to assist with the annual budget preparation. This position must exercise excellent judgment and perform routine, detailed analytical work with financial accuracy. Work is of above-average difficulty and is reviewed for progress and conformance to established procedures by the Director of Finance and/or their designee.
The primary responsibility of the Accountant will involve, but not be limited to:
• Maintains accounting system and records.
• Prepares monthly Treasurer’s reports and financial reports for the Village Board of Trustees and Village department heads; prepares and inputs journal entries for month-end transactions to general ledger system; runs edits and updates for accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, payroll, and budget adjustments.
• Prepares month-end analysis and reconciliation of investments and cash account balances.
• Assists in all annual financial activities including, but not limited to: Annual Audit, Annual Budget, Tax Levy, Budget and Appropriations Ordinance and Treasurer’s Report.
• Submits annual, unclaimed property report.
• Performs analysis of various ledger accounts necessary for making departmental decisions.
• Provides technical and administrative assistance in all areas of accounting in the Finance Department and other departments; prepares schedules and reports for auditors for each fiscal year-end audit; assists external auditors in the preparation and completion of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
• This position may serve as back-up to various other positions within the Finance Department.
• Must wear all required safety equipment (i.e., gloves, ear plugs, etc.) for the duty at hand according to department, equipment and regulatory specifications; report near miss accidents; comply with proper P.P.E. usage and follow required JSA’s; attend all required Village and department training; perform vehicle and work area evaluations according to department specifications and as required on a daily basis; initiate training topics or issues as needed.
