Chief Building Inspector

Under the general direction of the Fire Chief, the Chief Building Inspector is responsible for the administration
and enforcement of building inspections and code compliance related to building, plumbing, electrical, fire, and
other municipal codes and ordinances. Duties include inspecting new construction, additions, and alterations of
residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use buildings and structures to ensure compliance with applicable
building codes and permits; overseeing the issuance of permits, fee collection, and coordination of inspections;
ensuring permits and associated inspections are handled appropriately; and supervision of building division staff.

The successful candidate will have three years of increasingly responsible journey-level experience in building,
electrical, and mechanical inspections, and/or review of building, electrical, and mechanical plans with regard to
building or code compliance. Experience as a building inspector, construction compliance inspector/officer, or
construction manager is preferred. Minimum of two years college-level or trade school course work in building
construction, electrical, and mechanical systems. Additional specialized training in construction technology,
building inspection technology, or related field is preferred. Possession of, or ability to obtain within 12 months
of hire, valid International Code Council certifications as a ICC (B1) Residential Building Inspector, ICC (E1)
Residential Electrical Inspector, and ICC (M1) Residential Mechanical Inspector. Possession of, or ability to obtain
within 24 months of hire, appropriate, valid International Code Council certifications as an ICC (M2) Commercial
Mechanical Inspector and ICC (B2) Commercial Building Inspector.

The salary range is $82,975 to $101,640 DOQ & DOE. Employee benefits package includes medical insurance, Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund Pension participation, ICMA-RC retirement plans, life insurance, paid sick,

Public Maintenance Worker – Sewer

Summary of Position and Duties:
The Human Resources Division of the Village of Addison is accepting applications to fill one (1) vacancy in the at-will, non-exempt, full-time position of Public Maintenance Worker 1 in the Public Works Department, Division of Sewer. Under direct supervision, this person performs a wide variety of manual tasks involving the maintenance and repair of Village sewer-lines, lift stations, roadways, and curb inlets, and buildings and grounds. The Public Maintenance Worker 1 works 40-hours a week, 7:00am – 3:30pm, Monday – Friday. May be required to work weekends, holidays and overtime to complete job requirements, as well as be on 24-hour call when necessary. Work is of routine difficulty and reviewed for progress and conformance to established procedures by the Sewer Foreman and/or his designee.

The primary responsibility of the Public Maintenance Worker 1 will involve, but not be limited to:

• Assists other workers engaged in performing maintenance work on Village lift stations, sanitary and storm sewers, roadways, and curb inlets.

• Cleans and repairs sewer-mains and sanitary manholes.

• Operates various equipment, such as a backhoe, end-loader, sewer-jet, dump-truck, and hand tools for the digging and repairing blocked sanitary sewer lines.

• Assists other workers with department operations ensuring assigned tasks are completed accurately, timely, safely, and according to instructed operating procedures. Also assists other workers in specified area(s) of expertise in the operation, instruction and implementation of safe working practices in the operation of all necessary equipment and tools involved in the maintenance of Village collection systems and lift stations or related operations; and, assists with the general preventative maintenance work and repairs on equipment. Maintains buildings, grounds, and related equipment, power rodder, high velocity pipe cleaner, and related items.

• Ability to safely and properly operate trucks, tools, and equipment involved in department operations and perform said duties in strict accordance with the Department/division SOP/safety manual; may serve on departmental safety committee.

• Must wear all required safety equipment (i.e., gloves, ear plugs, etc.) for the duty at hand according to department, equipment and regulatory specifications; report near miss accidents; comply with proper P.P.E. usage and follow required JSA’s; attend all required Village and department training; perform vehicle and work area evaluations (CDL Inspections) according to department specifications and as required on a daily basis; initiate training topics or issues as needed.

• Possess the ability to identify and mitigate where appropriate various disruptions to both public and private drainage systems.

• Acts as an intermediary with Village residents concerning service complaints, i.e., service disruptions, sewerage back-up, flooding complaints, etc. writes follow-up reports and maintains necessary records, if needed, prepares required reports and records. Provides said service to customers in a timely, professional and courteous manner.

• Maintains and repairs various types of equipment such as tractor, snow-plow, salt-spreader and auger and other related machinery.

• Assists in the street snow and ice removal program and may assist in the repair of streets, water-main breaks and sanitary sewer back-up calls as needed.

• Performs minor maintenance on tools and equipment.

• Responds to emergency calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The above-captioned duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

The Village reserves the right to temporarily re-assign employees in this position to other divisions. Employees temporarily re-assigned to another division will conduct their work under the job description for the position they are assigned to.

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be an eligible candidate for this position:

• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Possess a valid Illinois CDL Class ‘D’ and/or Class ‘B’ or of the classification appropriate to the equipment to be operated, free from incidence that may result in license revocation or suspension (or possess the ability to obtain a CDL within six ‘6’ months of hire).
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, along with any expected/unexpected overtime that may be mandatory.
• Ability to pass a personal interview, physical and drug screen when applicable.
• Be able to successfully utilize Microsoft Office software programs (i.e., Word and Excel).

Beneficial Qualifications Include:

• Possess vocational/technical training in the construction trades and additional experience in public works/utility maintenance, construction and repair, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job preferred.
• Experience in successfully dealing with the public on a very frequent basis, including the ability to handle irate, difficult and demanding customers with professionalism and courtesy.

Salary:

The hourly wage range for this position is $60,912 – $84,316. The Public Maintenance Worker 1 will receive a very competitive benefit package and work 40-hours per week, plus any required overtime.

Required test and screenings:

The candidate selection process consists of: a review of the candidate’s past work experience/skills and a personal interview. Successful candidates must successfully pass all required screenings and tests administered, when applicable, in order to be a candidate for this position. However, passing all required screenings/tests and completing a personal interview does not guarantee hire by the Village, as the ultimate decision to hire anyone is at the sole discretion of the Village of Addison.
