Balkan Bakery in La Grange is currently hiring a pastry prep assistant. Sift runs 8 AM – 4 PM. We are located at 541 S. La Grange Road, La Grange, IL 60525. We are a ethnic convenience store and bakery with made from scratch desserts and savory pies.

The pastry prep assistant will be in charge of pastry preparation, as well as the cleanliness of the bakery.

Essential Functions:
Wash pots, pans, silverware and plates, among other utensils/objects as needed.
Know how to use a three compartment sink
Work at a fast and efficient pace
Take direction from the kitchen manager
Be able to assist in the preparation of various desserts with the direction of the kitchen manager
Be able to organize efficiently
Have good time management skills
Work well with other staff in a high volume work environment

Other Functions:
Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the bakery as directed by the bakery manager or immediate supervisor.
Be able to comply with health and food safety standards, restocking items and cleaning.

Physical Functions:
Ability to stand/walk a minimum of 8 hours or as needed.
Must be able to exert well-paced and frequent mobility for periods of up to 8 hours or as needed.
Be able to lift up to 30+ pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds on occasion
Will frequently reach, feel, bend, stoop, carry, use stairs, finely manipulate and key in data.
Work in both warm and cool environments
High levels of noise from music, customer and employee traffic.
Must be able to tolerate potential allergens: peanut products, egg, dairy and gluten.

Qualifications, Education and Behavior
At least 18 years old.
Have a minimum of 1 year dishwashing experience
Ability to work quickly while maintaining safety standards and procedures.
Ability to properly handle a knife, confidently.
Ability to work a consistent schedule.

Compensation details
$13 an hour, part time position. Availability needed is Tuesday-Saturday weekly.
