Summary of Position and Duties:
The Human Resources Division of the Village of Addison is accepting applications to fill one (1) vacancy in the at-will, F.L.S.A non-exempt, full-time position of Systems Administrator in the Information Technology Division of the Administration Department. The Systems Administrator’s primary duties involve performing work that requires practical application of highly-specialized knowledge in computer systems analysis, which includes work requiring the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment. The Systems Administrator also assists existing staff in the Information Technology Division, dealing with the day-to-day trouble-shooting required to address both routine and complex problems with desktops, laptops and mobile communication devices. This individual interacts regularly with employees who utilize the Information Technology Division’s technology, so the Systems Administrator is expected to have an out-going personality and be comfortable interacting with a variety of people; this also includes being a motivated self-starter who can work with minimal supervision. The individual in this position may be expected to work evenings and weekend hours in order to accomplish the necessary tasks. Systems Administrator is supervised and evaluated by the Information Technology Manager or his designee.
The Systems Administrator works Monday through Friday, 37.5-hour work-weeks, plus any required overtime and other work outside the normal work-week as directed. Work is of complex difficulty and is reviewed for conformance to established procedures and goals by the Information Technology Manager and/or his or her designee.
The primary responsibility of the Systems Administrator will involve, but not be limited to:
• The application of systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users, to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications.
• The design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing and/or modification of computer systems or programs, including prototypes, based on and related to user or system design specifications.
• The design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing and/or modification of Village of Addison Administration or Public Works systems, based on and related to user or system design specifications.
• The design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing and/or modification of Microsoft Active Directory and Printer management and deployment, based on and related to user or system design specifications. The design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing and/or modification of Security and Backup Appliances, based on and related to user or system design specifications.
• The design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing and/or modification of Environmental Services and SCADA systems, based on and related to user or system design specifications.
• The design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing and/or modification of Helpdesk, asset management, and Inventory systems, based on and related to user or system design specifications
• The design, documentation, testing, creation or modification of computer programs related to machine operating systems.
• Expected to be able to handle helpdesk level I and II troubleshooting. This includes, but not limited to: basic PC issues with both software and hardware, network connectivity, email and phone issues, and basic Server-related administration functions.
• Assist in the maintenance, updating and the trouble-shooting of desktops, laptops, and mobile communication devices, including connectivity and Internet issues related to the aforementioned.
Also receives and investigates the complaints from other department end-users regarding division
services. Institutes corrective measures as feasible and communicates with the complaining party
regarding complaint disposition. Provides said service to customers in a timely, professional and
courteous manner.
• Assist the other Information Technology staff with any items that they have that might require assistance.
• Work with the Information Technology staff in updating existing documentation, inventory, software documentation, computer use policy, and other general Information Technology-related duties.
